Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams has been made available for trade this offseason. It seems he could not be any happier about the new development in his situation.
Williams has had a falling out with the Redskins ever since prior to the 2019 NFL season. According to John Keim of ESPN.com, he is looking forward to parting ways:
“I'm just happy this situation seems to be heading towards an end,” Williams wrote in a text.
Williams' issues with the team stem from their mishandling over a medical condition that resulted in a cancerous growth having to be removed from his scalp last offseason. Although many have cited that trust between both sides became an issue, there is still speculation regarding how much of it has to with his current contract situation.
Article Continues BelowWashington has since ushered in significant changes after firing team president Bruce Allen and bringing in head coach Ron Rivera. While Rivera was initially looking forward to getting the veteran on board with the new regime, it seems Williams will instead be made available on the trade market.
Recent reports indicate that Williams would like to become the highest-paid tackle in the NFL. After all, he had been named a seven-time consecutive Pro Bowler prior to the 2019 campaign. The market was set when the Philadelphia Eagles signed right tackle Lane Johnson to a deal worth $18 million per year, and Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil is expected to increase that number this offseason.
It will be interesting to see if Williams is able to get his new payday wherever he ends up this offseason.
