The Washington Redskins have yet to trade offensive tackle Trent Williams, but a deal may be coming.
According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins still have “multiple teams” chasing Williams. However, Washington wants to make sure it gets “fair compensation” in return.
Finlay notes that the Redskins are hoping to get second-round value in return for Williams — but that they are flexible on that point. The operative word there is “value,” so it doesn't necessarily mean Washington would have to receive a second-round draft pick. In theory, the Redskins could land multiple picks that equals a second-round valuation or fetch a player and a pick.
Washington is also apparently open to taking a pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Williams' relationship with the Redskins soured last offseason. That's when a growth on his head that Washington's medical staff had brushed off as minor back in 2013 was revealed to be a type of cancer.
The 31-year-old underwent surgery to remove the growth and refused to participate in the Redskins' offseason program. It led to Washington placing him on the did-not-report list last July.
The Redskins attempted to trade Williams between last offseason and the Week 8 trade deadline back in October, but were not able to find any deals they liked.
Williams attempted to return to the field in the middle of this past season. But he experienced discomfort when trying to put on his helmet due to post-surgical soreness on his scalp.
The University of Oklahoma product was drafted by the Redskins in 2010 and made seven straight Pro Bowls between 2012 and 2018.
