The Washington Redskins have already undergone an eventful offseason in terms of their look for the 2018 NFL season. Now it seems another notable member of last year's team could be on his way out.
Cornerback Josh Norman has served as a leader on the defensive side of the ball since coming over prior to the 2016 NFL season. However, both Washington and Norman could be ready to part ways this offseason, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:
Washington had won the Norman sweepstakes back in 2016 after his stellar campaign with the Carolina Panthers. It was a seamless transition at first as he became the team's vocal leader both on and off the field. He was known for hosting team-bonding activities and even reunited with former high school teammate and safety D.J. Swearinger to help build the camaraderie within the secondary. Unfortunately, although he served as their top cornerback, his production was hardly what is used to be.
Washington is undergoing some serious player personnel changes this offseason. That said, parting ways with Norman would not only free up some much-needed cap space but it also allows them to build a new identity on defense.
However, the Redskins will still have lingering depth issues in the secondary with cornerback Kendall Fuller being part of the trade for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. Although former safety Su'a Cravens has come back out of retirement, there is little guarantee that he will remain in Washington moving forward.
