Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks of his generation, but almost all of his damage comes from the pocket. Brady isn't really known for his ability to tuck and run the pigskin.

But, every now and then, Brady sees an opening and takes off. He rarely absorbs major contact, gaining as many yards as possible before sliding to the ground. Brady isn't fast, but if opposing defenses ignore his ability to run, they'll get toasted.

Just don't ask Tom's mom about the first part of that last sentence, though. Brady's 5.28 40-yard dash isn't exactly speedy, but she still believes her son is fast.

Brady was asked about his mobility after a five-yard scramble for a first down in Pittsburgh. From ESPN's Mike Reiss:

Brady knows he's not the fastest, but joked Wednesday, “Don't tell my mom that. She would totally disagree with that. She thinks I'm very fast. She'll say, ‘I think you're the fastest person on the field.' I say, ‘Mom, you're crazy. There's no way.' That's moms.”

On a more serious note, Brady also discussed the importance of quarterbacks being able to run. It's more about timing, and less about sheer speed:

“I've been talking about that for a couple years,” he said. “If there are two or three plays a game that you can make just moving in the pocket, or sliding, or buying receivers more time, or scrambling on third-and-2, it's just one more thing they have to defend. … It's nice to be able to do that because it does help the team. I think it's a little discouraging for a defense when they feel like they got you covered or they have the right call on and then all of a sudden; I don't think they're preparing for me scrambling for first downs. I know they're not working on that.
