The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into the offseason with an unclear decision on their quarterback. While head coach Nick Sirianni said that Jalen Hurts is the guy for the job moving forward, trade speculations are looming over Philadelphia.

Certainly, if the Eagles do acquire a veteran quarterback this offseason, Hurts will likely be involved in the trade. The franchise will do whatever it takes to avoid yet another quarterback controversy, even if it means getting rid of Hurts.

Ultimately, this is the right move. The Eagles have a lot going in their favor this offseason, including the struggles of the rest of the teams within their division.

They need to capitalize on the chance to win now, or it will be a long time before this opportunity arises again in Philadelphia. Here are the two main reasons that the Eagles need to make a huge splash at the quarterback position this offseason.

1. They have the ammo

The Eagles are the only franchise in the NFL with three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. They have the 15th, 16th, and 19th overall picks this offseason.

Let's be honest, Howie Roseman isn't the best when it comes to capitalizing on draft picks. The Eagles general manager is most recently credited with the bust selections of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in 2019 and Jalen Reagor in 2020. He had a slight moment of redemption when he drafted DeVonta Smith in 2021, but there are other ways the Eagles can take advantage of these picks.

Many teams need quarterbacks this offseason, but no team has the trade leverage that the Eagles have. They could potentially trade a few first-round picks for a veteran quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers or Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks.

It isn't too often that a team has more than two first-round picks in a single draft. The Eagles need to capitalize on this opportunity now and make a blockbuster trade while they have the means to do so.

2. Now is the time to win in the NFC East

At this point, many NFL fans refer to the NFC East as the “NFC Least,” because they're usually the worst division in the league. The nickname is pretty accurate because none of the four teams have serious Super Bowl potential anytime soon. However, the Eagles could quickly turn this narrative around with the help of a veteran quarterback and the misfortune of their division rivals.

The Dallas Cowboys are cursed with the mindset that every year is going to be “their year,” yet they've fallen short of the championship the past 26 years. Dak Prescott has yet to lead his team to a championship since they committed to him as their franchise quarterback in 2016.

The Washington Commanders and the New York Giants are the least of the Eagles' worries in the East. Both teams finished below .500 this season and are struggling at quarterback.

With all this in mind, the Eagles could have six wins right off the bat next season under the leadership of the right quarterback.
