Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is having an MVP caliber season. Not too shabby for a player in only his second season of National Football League action. As neat as his stellar player is that Carson Wentz is also setting franchise records.

Through nine games this season, he has done something no Eagles quarterbacks has ever done. You ready for it? Wentz has thrown 23 touchdown passes. For those bad at math (me), that is over two touchdown tosses per game (or, really, just short of three), which might not seem like a lot to the Madden generation, but to put it in some context, he's on pace for (roughly) 40 touchdown passes this season.

That is … a lot.

Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin held the previous franchise record with 20 touchdown tosses. To credit him, that was in an entirely different era of football. And, if we are being honest, it is rather stunning that he held the previous record, as the Eagles have had some impressive gunslingers between Van Brocklin and Wentz.

Philadelphia currently has a stranglehold on the NFC East. With the New York Giants being an absolute dumpster fire, and the Dallas Cowboys already playing catch up, it is really Philly's division to lose.

The Eagles are currently operating with an overall record of 8-1. A great record at this point in the season. Even better, Philadelphia will be entering its bye-week this weekend, allowing the team to get healthy heading into the final push of the regular season.

Carson Wentz for MVP? It sure seems like it.
