Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finally broke his silence regarding the trade that sent former teammate Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. Hurts, who's now the presumed starter for Eagles in the next NFL season, joined ESPN's Adam Schefter and spoke for the very first time to address the surprising trade that went down around a month ago (via NBC Sports).

“I think it was just an opportunity for me. I think it shows the trust in what they think I can be as a player. So I want to prove them right.”

Wentz had a terrible last year with the Eagles, tallying the least amount of yards (2,620) in his entire career while also recording his worst QB rating of 72.8. A deal was imminent to move on from the 28-year-old Super Bowl champion since the Eagles went with Hurts as their QB1 in Week 14.

Hurts, last year's 53rd overall pick, is keeping calm and staying focused on the task at hand. He isn't letting any of the business moves distract him from what he has to do come in his sophomore year in the NFL, whether he's actually starting or not.

“I kind of kept the same mentality I’ve had this whole time. Control what I can control and me being the best player I can be. It ain’t too much of my business, so I don’t get into that.”

Though the fast-rising 22-year-old yet to speak with Wentz since the trade, Hurts has nothing but good words towards the guy who was in front of him for almost his entire rookie year.

“I send him my blessings. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he takes off. I hope he has a great remainder of his career.”

Clearly, Jalen Hurts is ready to make the leap.
