The Philadelphia Eagles took care of business in Week 16 with the 34-10 home win over the New York Giants. For second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts, the stout play of rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith was among his more notable takeaways from the victory.

Hurts once again formed keen chemistry with Smith over the course of the game. The former Alabama Crimson Tide stars connected on five passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.

The touchdown score came courtesy of what can be argued is the best catch of Smith’s rookie campaign with the Eagles so far.

In his post-game press conference, Hurts took some time to laud the one-time Heisman-winning wideout.

“That’s a big time play in a big time moment in the game,” Hurts said. “It’s something we practice and preach all the time. He may be in his first year, but he’s a true pro.”

While Smith may not be among the frontrunners for the 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, he has been orchestrating a promising, under-the-radar campaign in his opening season with the Eagles. He has so far recorded 821 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in 15 games played.

The Eagles will finish regular season play with NFC East clashes against the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys. Smith will not only sure look to notch a 1,000-plus receiving yards campaign in his rookie season, but he will also aim to help Philadelphia clinch a wild-card spot in the NFC playoff picture.
