Golden Tate was one of the biggest names traded ahead of this year's NFL trade deadline. After being placed on the trade block by the Detroit Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles were happy to trade a third-round pick to the Lions to get him.
Philadelphia went into the deadline looking to pick up an offensive playmaker. They were connected to quite a few running backs, especially Le'Veon Bell and LeSean McCoy. Instead, they picked up an extremely consistent and dangerous wide receiver for Carson Wentz to work with.
Following the move to acquire Tate, his new teammates took to Twitter to welcome him to his new home.
Carson Wentz was more than happy to welcome his new target. He will now have Tate and Alshon Jeffery as his top two weapons, which is going to be tough for defenses to stop.
Let’s roll my man! Excited to compete with ya! #flyeaglesfly @ShowtimeTate https://t.co/Cy1pARU7HZ

There were a couple of other Eagles that tweeted soon after the team traded for Tate as well, including Fletcher Cox.

Throughout the first seven games of the season with the Lions, Tate caught 44 passes for 517 yards and three touchdowns. He has been one of the NFL's most consistent receivers during his tenure with the Lions. Trading him wasn't something that they wanted to do, but they knew they needed to get some value for him.
Tate is headed for free agency this coming offseason. Philadelphia could try to re-sign him, but there are going to be plenty of teams lined up with interest in him.
That being said, Tate is going to be a huge pickup for the Eagles. They are looking to get their offense back on track and he will help them do just that.
Expect to see Tate continue to put up big numbers throughout the remainder of the season. Joining the defending champion Eagles will help energize him and he will be a key piece for their chances to repeat as champions.
