Earlier this week, the New York Giants made the decision to bench quarterback Eli Manning ahead of their Week 13 action against the Oakland Raiders, which has since drawn plenty of flack around the league.
The latest to weigh in on the situation is Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers, who didn't mince his words about his thoughts about Manning's demotion, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Chargers’ QB Philip Rivers on how the Giants handled the Eli Manning situation: “I thought it was pathetic."

Rivers' stance is one shared around many others in and around the league given the amount of dysfunction that has spewed this season within the Giants organization. It has made Manning's benching fall in line with that train of thought, as he has provided much stability to the franchise over his first 14 years of his career, with 210 consecutive starts. Rivers will now hold the longest active starts streak in the NFL, taking the field for consecutive start #188 against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
There have been plenty of ups and downs over that span, but Manning did help lead the team to a pair of Super Bowl wins in the process. This season, all of that came to a head with the numerous injuries to key players on both sides of the ball, namely on offense with Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall both being out for the season. Making matters worse, they have experienced porous play along the offensive line along year, keeping the running game from having consistent success.
However, Manning is now 36 years old and his play on the field has continued to show a steady decline. What this move may simply signal is that is just the beginning of the team moving on.
