Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner is not expected to play in the team's Week 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Conner is still dealing with the shoulder injury that kept him out of last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts. Pittsburgh will have to rely on running backs Jaylen Samuels and Trey Edmunds.
In 2019, Conner has carried the ball 97 times for 380 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Connor also has 236 receiving yards.
Pittsburgh is on a roll right now after an unfortunate start to the season, which included losing franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to an elbow injury. Since starting the season 0-3, the team is now 4-4 with a favorable schedule in the latter half of the season.
The Steelers will face the Cleveland Browns twice, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets.
Pittsburgh is currently in second place in the AFC North behind the 6-2 Baltimore Ravens.
This week's matchup against the Rams will be a test for quarterback Mason Rudolph, and especially the Steelers' vaulted defense. Without Conner, the Rams will challenge Rudolph, forcing him to beat the team's secondary with pressure from Aaron Donald coming through the middle.
Conner's injury shouldn't be a long-term problem for the Steelers, but the team reportedly called the New York Jets about former running back Le'Veon Bell before the trade deadline passed. Pittsburgh will need Conner back for a playoff run.
