Beyond his stellar performance on the field in his rookie campaign, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has continued to earn a strong name for himself in the gaming world. He has quickly become one of the many professional athletes that have been quite public with their admiration for it.

This has now landed Smith-Schuster into a unique situation where he has garnered a sponsorship deal with the gaming company HyperX, according to Jason Dill of The Bradenton Herald.

On Monday, Smith-Schuster was announced as the first NFL player to earn a gaming sponsorship.

HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., announced via a press release that Smith-Schuster is a brand ambassador for the gaming company.

The deal that the 21-year-old has inked will require him to wear HyperX gear during his live stream gaming session while also partake in the marketing campaigns along with making public appearances at HyperX fan events. This allows for Smith-Schuster to continue to be heavily involved in gaming away from the game that has earned him a chance to make money off the field.

Although he has become more public with his passion for the eSports gaming world, he has continued to voice his strong commitment to his NFL career.

Following a standout rookie campaign where he had 58 catches for 917 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, he has a chance to develop into one of the league's top duos in the passing game alongside All-Pro wideout Antonio Brown.

There could be some push back if there is any dip in his performance on the field next season, but this is an opportunity for him to further expand his brand beyond just the NFL. This could also start a trend where more professional athletes get the chance to be involved in the growing eSports community.
