After failing to come to terms on a long-term deal, the Pittsburgh Steelers are facing the very real possibility that this will be Le’Veon Bell’s last year with the team. But teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster isn’t about to give him up without doing everything in his power to get him to stay.

The incoming second-year wideout realizes just how important Bell is to the team, and if the team doesn’t want to pay him, he’s willing to put up some of his own money to keep him in town.

“He’s huge,” Smith-Schuster said to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. “They should pay him up. They need to pay him. I’ll give him a couple of mil just to keep him on our team. Honestly, when they double team AB and him, that’s when I eat, so I need him.”

Obviously, JuJu is joshing when he says he’s ready to pay Bell to stay. And even if he were serious, he might not have the type of cash needed to get the job done. Smith-Schuster’s getting paid just over $1.5 million over the next two years and his entire four-year rookie deal is worth just over $4 million.

That means he'll need a lot more cash to cover the $17 million in annual salary Bell was reportedly asking for. But maybe Smith-Schuster's eSports sponsorship is pretty lucrative so he can spare a couple more mil to help keep Bell.

On a more serious note, though, it’s going to take something special to convince Bell to stay in Pittsburgh at this point. Smith-Schuster will just have to brace himself for the likelihood that Bell isn't long for the Steelers and step up if and when he goes do.
