Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster took the blame Monday for the Steelers’ loss to the New Orleans Saints, saying on Twitter that he “let everyone down” after he committed a key fourth-quarter fumble.
When I’m at my lowest, I’m not going to hide. I’m sorry. That loss was on me. I let everyone down, it won’t happen again. pic.twitter.com/amLOGJxino

After the New Orleans Saints scored the go-ahead touchdown to take a 31-28 lead with 1:25 remaining, the Steelers were closing in on field-goal range when Smith-Schuster fumbled, which sealed the game for the Saints.
Smith-Schuster had been questionable to play in the game due to a groin injury, but he promised to play for the sake of his fantasy football owners. And despite his injury, Smith-Schuster came through with another strong game as he had 11 catches for 115 yards.
Smith-Schuster has been stellar all season for the Steelers. He has 106 catches for the season — the youngest NFL player ever to reach 100 receptions in a season, according to ESPN Stats & Information — to go with 1,389 yards and six touchdowns.
However, his fumble was a costly one. With the Steelers’ loss, they now face an uphill battle to make it into the postseason. They will need to win in Week 17 and the Ravens to lose to win the AFC North. They could also get through the wild card if both the Colts and Titans lose.
Despite his error, though, Smith-Schuster’s Steelers teammates remained supportive of the young wideout, noting that his contributions have been vital to their success this season. So even if the Steelers don’t make it into the playoffs, it will be in no way solely because of Smith-Schuster’s fumble.
