On the heels of Ben Roethlisberger's retirement, the Pittsburgh Steelers came to terms with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on a two-year deal earlier this month.
While there was much outside speculation that the Steelers would make a push to trade for Russell Wilson or Jimmy Garoppolo, team general manager Kevin Colbert opted for a low-risk, high-reward move by signing Trubisky. The former North Carolina passer spent the past year as the backup quarterback for Josh Allen, and he also learned from now-former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
In speaking on Sunday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin touched on the team’s decision to bring in Trubisky, where he called him a “winner.”

Although not much attention is paid to quarterback wins, Trubisky did finish his run with the Chicago Bears with a 29-21 record, which included notching 11 victories and 24 passing touchdowns in the 2018 campaign.
In the big picture, Tomlin and Colbert noted on Sunday that signing Trubisky does not rule them out from possibly selecting a passer in the 2022 NFL Draft. Tomlin has been doing his scouting homework on the quarterback draft class by attending some of their pro days, including for Malik Willis and Matt Corral. However, he will not attend Sam Howell’s pro day at North Carolina, as he is at the annual NFL owners meeting in Palm Beach, Florida.
The wait is still on for just who will earn the nod to start at quarterback for Pittsburgh come Week 1 of the 2022 season.
