The Pittsburgh Steelers came up short of pulling off a historic comeback win in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Steelers orchestrated a performance to forget in the first half, as their failure to convert crucial third downs on offense coupled with their inability to contain running back Dalvin Cook saw them open the third quarter with a 23-0 deficit. The Vikings later added a pair of field goals to build a 29-0 lead, and it seemed as if they were on their way to securing one of the most convincing primetime wins by any team this season.

However, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger guided Pittsburgh to four touchdown drives in the second half. The Steelers came close to pulling within a 2-point conversion attempt from knotting the game up at 36, but an end zone drop by rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth on the final play of the game put a halt to their comeback bid.

Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris played a crucial role in this near-comeback, as he finished with 104 yards from scrimmage and two total touchdowns. In the end, Harris was pleased with the fight from his team in the second half, which he touched on during his post-game press conference.

“We didn’t quit,” Harris said.

The Steelers currently hold the No. 10 seed in the AFC and could fall back a few spots in the conference playoff picture pending several results in Week 14. Still, Harris is not throwing in the towel on his team.

“Obviously the outcome's not what we wanted, but just the fact that we came back and didn’t quit,” Harris said. “We’re not there yet, but we’re gonnna get there eventually.”

The Steelers now have four games remaining on the season, and overall, a winning streak may soon be needed if they aspire to make a late playoff push in the AFC.
