Since the New Orleans Saints saw their season come to a close, pending free agent quarterback Drew Brees has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to remain with the team.

General manager Mickey Loomis has now voiced a similar sentiment about the future of the 39-year-old in New Orleans, per Josh Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune

“We want him to be our quarterback, and we’ll get going on that at some point,” Loomis said. “We’ll get to it. I’m not anticipating any big issues, so we’ll see.”

With both sides appearing to be on the same page, hammering out a new deal should be a swift process. Brees previously made it clear that he has no intentions of testing the free agent market. He has become quite comfortable in New Orleans over the last 12 seasons, leading the team to six playoff appearances along with their first Super Bowl win.

Brees is coming off another highly productive campaign, finishing fourth in the league with 4,334 passing yards, first with a 72.0 completion rate, and second with a 103.9 passer rating. It also marked his 12th straight season with more than 4,000 passing yards, and his sixth posting a passer rating above 100. He did see a noticeable drop in touchdown passes, but that came directly due to the offense now having balance behind their two-headed running game of Pro Bowlers Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.

Brees knows staying with the Saints likely provides him the best chance to win another Super Bowl. New Orleans now features a balanced offense and a much-improved defense that the front office will look to add to over the offseason.

Brees' next deal may mark the last of his Hall of Fame career, as he's set to enter his 18th year in the NFL.
