The San Francisco 49ers are looking to rebound from their tough loss to the Baltimore Ravens with an upcoming matchup against the Washington Commanders. This game will also have personal meaning for 49ers pass rusher Chase Young, who will face his former team for the first time since he was traded to San Francisco.

The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft, Young spent his first three and a half seasons of his career with the Commanders. His career got off to a great start as he won Defensive Rookie of the Year while putting up 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and four pass break ups before a torn ACL shortened his next two seasons. Midway through his fourth year and full return, the Commanders traded Young to the 49ers in exchange for a third-round pick. They also traded Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears on the same day.

Despite the trade, Chase Young had nothing but compliments for his former team ahead of the game. “They're definitely a team who's going to fight to the end. I do know that. So we just got to come out good,” Young said. “I think, over there, it's a real good locker room. I think we had fun in the locker room, for sure,” via 49ers Web Zone.

The Commanders showed they will fight to the end during their Week 15 comeback versus the New York Jets. After trailing 27-7, Washington scored three times to take a 28-27 lead before the Jets scored a game-winning field goal. Aside from this comeback though, the two teams have gone in opposite directions since the trade. The Commanders have lost six of their last seven while the 49ers have won six of their last seven. It's a bummer that things did not work out long term for Young in Washington, but great that he gets to play for a contender.
