The Seattle Seahawks received some untimely news ahead of their first day of training camp on July 25. Jarran Reed received a six-game suspension by the NFL to begin the 2019 season.

Reed issued a statement on Twitter after his suspension.

Reed has been suspended six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.  The Seahawks' defensive tackle appealed the suspension, but the appeal was denied on Friday.

The incident stems from a domestic violence situation that occurred in 2017. There was an investigation into the situation, but Reed wasn't arrested or charged.

The NFL has been inconsistent in how it handles domestic violence situations. Most recently, the NFL decided to not suspend Tyreek Hill after investigating his situation with his child and his girlfriend.

Last season, Reed became a key contributor to the Seahawks' defense in his third season in the NFL. After having just three sacks in his first two seasons, Reed had 10.5 sacks last year, second most on the team.

This offseason, the Seahawks traded their lead sack getter of 2018 in Frank Clark. Then, Seattle proceeded to draft L.J. Collier in the first round of this year's draft and sign Ezekiel Ansah in free agency.

Now, with Reed being suspended, Seattle will need to replace its two sack leaders from 2018, at least for six weeks. Pete Carroll already had a few question marks on the defensive line but now the situation is even more cloudy.
