The Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran left tackle Duane Brown to a three-year, $36.5 million contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Brown, who was entering the final year of his contract which will pay him $9.75 million, is now under contract with the Seahawks until the 2021 season.

The Seahawks acquired Brown in a trade with the Houston Texans in late October. Seattle got him and a fifth-round pick in exchange for a second-round pick in 2019 and a third-round pick in 2018.

Brown gave a huge boost to a Seahawks offensive line which had been among the worst in the NFL over the last few years. The left tackle position, in particular, has been a hard spot to fill ever since the departure of Russell Okung in 2016.

But Brown proved that even at 33 years of age, he’s still one of the more reliable left tackles in the league. His stellar performance last year earned him his fourth career trip to the Pro Bowl.

With this extension, the Seahawks have shown their belief in Brown and his ability to capably protect Russell Wilson’s blind side even as he reaches his mid-30s.

Despite getting Brown’s deal done, the Seahawks still have a handful of important players in the final year of their deals who are looking for extensions of their own. Defensive end Frank Clark and wide receiver Tyler Lockett are two notable young players in search for long-term contracts, while veteran linebacker K.J. Wright and disgruntled safety Earl Thomas are also awaiting new deals.
