The 2018 NFL season did not go quite as planned for Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny. Fortunately, he is optimistic about a potential resurgence moving forward.

It is no secret Penny struggled to find his footing as a rookie. According to John Boyle of the team's official website, he is happy to have a fresh start this offseason:

“It was frustrating for me as a rookie,” Penny said. “I didn't know how to take it. I've never been hurt playing football in my life, so when that happened, I just hit a wall. I'm glad that I've grown up. Over these past months and this offseason, I've just started taking everything seriously by treating my body right and doing the little things. Also, I think what helped me was losing all that extra weight. Now I feel better. I don't have all those nagging injuries. I'm at my best.”

“I’m just now learning how to be a pro,” he said. “I think that's the big step for your second year and just playing at a different type of speed than I played at last year.”

It is encouraging to see that Penny appears to be confident in his chances at a comeback in 2019. The Seahawks caught plenty of flak for taking him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He finished the 2018 campaign with 85 carries for 419 yards and two touchdowns. His inability to etch out a role in the offense only provided for justification for the criticisms. Regardless, will have an opportunity to prove the Seahawks right next season.

Penny has been doing what he can to make improvements in his overall skill set this offseason. He even recently revealed that he has been working with Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk while also slimming down to a much leaner playing weight. The 23-year -old will need to gain every edge he can if he hopes to compete with running back Chris Carson for the lion's share of the touches next season. At this point, Seattle appears to have quite the 1-2 punch brewing in the backfield.
