The Seattle Seahawks have locked up a playoff spot heading into the final week of the regular season, but are still jockeying for positioning between both wild-card spots.

Head coach Pete Carroll has already voiced that his team will not lay down by any means in the regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals. This is also expected to see the return of rookie running back Rashaad Penny to the mix, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

That means running back Rashaad Penny could play.

In fact, Carroll expects Penny to return, saying the rookie should “come roaring back,” Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports.

Penny has been dealing with a nagging knee injury that has forced him to be sidelined the last two weeks. In his absence, it has seen an increased dependency on starter Chris Carson, who has put up back-to-back 100 rushing yard performances. This has elevated Carson to putting together his first career 1,000 rushing yard campaign as he is currently eighth with 1,029 rushing yards.

The return of Penny should see him garner a sizable role as the Seahawks try to get his feet under him prior to the playoffs. He could factor in as a key factor out of the backfield in the postseason behind Carson due to his big-play ability running the ball.

Penny has proven to be an effective factor in his role while helping to offset Carson. He has notched more than 40 rushing yards six times including a career-high 108 yards against the Los Angeles Rams.
