On Monday morning, the Seattle Seahawks announced they are signing head coach Pete Carroll to a multi-year extension.

From Seahawks.com’s John Boyle:

“I am excited to announce that we have extended Head Coach Pete Carroll through the 2021 season,” said Jody Allen, Seahawks Chair and Trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust. “This will continue the championship culture that we have created in Seattle.”

Quarterback Russell Wilson had nothing but praise for his head coach following the news:

This extension makes Carroll one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL, with his salary coming in at over $11 million.

After an 0-2 start to the season, many thought the great Seattle “dynasty” was over. It was believed they would miss the playoffs for the second straight season and that head coach Carroll was on the hot seat.

The Seahawks emphatically proved the doubters wrong. They clinched a playoff spot this past weekend by beating the upstart Kansas City Chiefs and second-year MVP front-runner Patrick Mahomes. They have won nine of their last 13 games and have been on a tear ever since those first two duds.

Russell Wilson has had a spectacular year under center, throwing for 3,296 yards with 34 touchdowns and only four interceptions. His quarterback rating is 68.6 and his completion percentage sits at 66 percent mark. Wilson has led the resurgence of Seattle's run-and-gun offense that has allowed Carroll and the Seahawks to be so dominant.

The Seahawks finish out out the regular season versus the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17 before beginning their playoff run.
