The Seattle Seahawks and franchise quarterback Russell Wilson are currently locked in a battle revolving around a brand new contract for the Super Bowl champion. While Wilson would like a new deal in the next week, it remains to be seen as to whether or not Seattle caves in and grants him his wish with the 2019 campaign looming.

Although many believe that the Seahawks will pay Wilson yet again, former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio isn't so sure. In fact, the former Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars coach believes that it is entirely possible that the Seahawks going in a completely different direction in the end. Upon making a recent appearance on NFL Network, Del Rio said, ‘don't be surprised,' if Wilson is playing somewhere else in 2019.

Adding to Del Rio's point, a recent report from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times suggests that the two sides are not close on a deal as it stands today.

“While there has been communication between the two sides of late, the leak of the news of a deadline this week doesn’t appear to have — as yet, anyway — resulted in any significant breakthroughs in negotiations,” writes Condotta. “One league source said Friday ‘there has been very little progress made between the two sides.’ Conversely, it never takes much for there to suddenly be progress and deadlines tend to spur action, which also surely factored in to the setting of a deadline, and an earlier one than in the past.”

The Seahawks are coming off of yet another postseason appearance while Wilson currently has one year left on his contract with the NFC West franchise.
