Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston suffered a small fracture in his right thumb during his team's win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but it doesn't seem like the injury is going to sideline him.
According to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers are expecting Winston to play in their Week 15 matchup with the Detroit Lions next Sunday.
Stroud notes that the injury may limit Winston in practice, however.
Winston saw a specialist on Monday.
The numbers Winston posted against the Colts were a microcosm of his season overall.
He threw for 456 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions. On the year as a whole, Winston has thrown for 4,115 yards, 26 touchdowns and an NFL-leading 23 picks while completing 61.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.9.
There is a chance that Winston could end up leading the league in both passing touchdowns and interceptions, which would certainly give the Bucs an interesting decision to make this offseason when Winston hits free agency.
Now in his fifth NFL season, the general consensus is that the Buccaneers will end up parting ways with Winston after this year, but Tampa Bay would also have to have a replacement in mind.
Winston, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was originally selected by the Bucs with the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He showed promise over his first couple of seasons, but since then, Winston has largely struggled, both due to injury issues and inconsistent performance across the board.
The Buccaneers are 6-7 on the year.
