The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a splash with the addition of former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady this offseason. Meanwhile, former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is still testing the waters of free agency.

The Buccaneers' decision was presumably a tough pill to swallow for Winston. However, it seems he has seen the optimistic aspect of being replaced by Brady. Winston said, via Fox News:

“For you to get replaced by Tom Brady in a city that you love so much, I guess that's kudos to me.”

Winston added that that he hardly blames the Bucs for pulling the trigger on a deal for a player of Brady's caliber.

“One thing you can learn about me is my faith. I have tremendous faith in the Lord … and one thing about Tom Brady is it's understood that he is the G.O.A.T.

“But, at the end of the day, it's a competitive sport. We all in the business. So, I'm excited for whatever opportunity may hold.”

It is encouraging to see that Winston has managed to find the silver lining in the sudden change to his career. The fact that he seems to hold no hard feelings toward Tampa Bay is also indicative of both his maturity and understanding of the business side of the NFL.

Winston is coming off one of the most polarizing seasons in NFL history. Although he became the first quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season, he also led the league in passing yards, completions and attempts. Despite his promise, the chance to bring in Brady was just too good to pass up.

Winston has since undergone multiple surgeries to repair a torn meniscus and LASIK for his eyes. It now remains to be seen which team is willing to take on a high-risk, high-reward situation under center for the 2020 NFL season.
