Rob Gronkowski turned back the clock on Sunday as he played a huge role for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their 31-9 Sup0er Bowl 55 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old TE has yet to set his hands on the Vince Lombardi trophy, and if you are familiar with Gronk's history then you'll know exactly why this is the case.

A couple of years back, Gronkowski dented the New England Patriots' Lombardi trophy from Super Bowl 54. The Bucs are well aware of Gronk's antics, and it isn't surprising that they have yet to let the veteran near the trophy:

“That was dangerous how I dented that trophy, but I always blame that on Julian [Edelman]. He threw me the pitch,” Gronkowski told ESPN on Monday (h/t Charean Williams of NBC Sports). “I haven’t even touched the Lombardi Trophy. I’m not sure if it’s for a reason, if the Buccaneers organization is trying to keep it away from it, but it would be pretty cool just to even see it. I just saw it from about 30 yards away yesterday, but I have not touched it yet. Hopefully, I get to soon.”

Nonetheless, Gronk has already envisioned what he intends to do with the Lombardi trophy once he finally gets a hold of it:

“I’m going to give it a big kiss,” Gronkowski said. “I’ve got to pay my respects to it. Give it a big hug. Give it a kiss. Hold it up in the air. Then, I just go with the flow. I just never know what’s going to happen. I really don’t try to plan anything. I just go with the flow and whatever happens happens. I just like being in that moment and thinking of things on the spot.”

That's Gronk talk for completely going crazy with the trophy. Let's just hope he doesn't damage it this time around.

Gronkowski absolutely deserves to celebrate his fourth Super Bowl win after a memorable season with the Bucs this past term. The team, however, is understandably keeping a close eye on him in this respect.
