The NFL offseason is always filled with a multitude of outlandish rumors. After the 2021 season came to an end, plenty of headline-making rumors circulated around the league, including one that linked Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady to the Miami Dolphins.
According to a report from ProFootballTalk in February, the Dolphins had discussed plans about bringing in Brady and Sean Payton to the organization. Miami aspired to see Brady come in as a minority owner before unretiring to play for the team and have Payton replace Brian Flores as its new head coach.
In the end, Payton opted to leave the New Orleans Saints in January after calling it a career as a head coach, while Brady returned to the Buccaneers in March after putting an end to his retirement decision.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Brady was asked on whether there was any truth to the outside chatter about him possibly taking his talents to the Dolphins. The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback shied away from offering a flat-out denial of the rumors.
“Again, I had a lot of conversations with a lot of people as I've had for the last three or four years in my career about different opportunities when I am done playing football,” Brady said. “I kind of made a decision of what I'd like to do. I'll get to be in the game of football. I think the most important thing is where I'm at now and what I hope to do for this team.”
In the big picture, Brady simply has his focus centered on his ongoing run in Tampa Bay — a journey that he sees is “not over.”
“That has been my commitment to this team and organization,” Brady said. “It's been so much fun [since] I came here two years ago. It's been almost two and a half years now, and it's been an incredible part of my football journey. It's not over – we've still got a lot to accomplish. … I'm really excited about going out there and trying to compete and win a championship.”
When Brady decides to officially retire from the NFL, he will embark on a run as FOX Sports’ lead NFL analyst. He put pen to paper on a 10-year, $375 million deal with the sports broadcasting division last month.
The Buccaneers capped off their mandatory minicamp on Friday. Next up for the reigning NFC South champions will be the start of their training camp schedule next month.
