The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made sure that one of their finest pieces on offense won’t be going elsewhere beyond the 2018 NFL season. That’s after the team signed guard Ali Marpet to a five-year extension deal worth $55 million and comes with a $27.125 million in guaranteed money, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

This is quite a windfall for Marpet, who only has a base salary of $874,581 this season, per Spotrac.com. This is also a form of reward the Bucs are giving Ali Marpet for being such an asset on their offensive line. Pro Football Focus has a “good” grade for Marpet in both run blocking and pass blocking.
Article Continues BelowMarpet, a product of Hobart College, was selected by the Buccaneers 61st overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, thus making him the first Division III player to get selected in the second round. Although he’s coming from a little-known college program, Marpet was able to turn heads in the NFL Scouting Combine in which he ran the fastest 40-yard dash for offensive line prospects with a 4.98 seconds mark.
Having taken care of Marpet’s contract, the Bucs will now look to deal with other players with expiring contracts such as left tackle Donovan Smith and middle linebacker Kwon Alexander.
Marpet has yet to make a Pro Bowl roster so far in his young career, but the 25-year-old guard was part of the 2015 All-Rookie Team.
