Tom Brady has been playing football since the dawn of time. When God was busy creating the earth, Brady was there perfecting his spiral. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration but the dude is wild for continuing to play professional football at 44 years old (will be 45 at the start of the season). With that said, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star quarterback reflects on his decision to come out of retirement.
According to Nick Shook, Tom Brady had told Tampa Bay to prepare for the 2022 season without him. “And I think mostly when I kind of told the team, look, like you know guys gotta make plans without me. And then [general manager] Jason [Licht] and [former coach] Bruce [Arians] said just give it time, you know? I said, look, you know, I feel pretty strongly.” That was at the beginning of the offseason. However, things changed for the Buccaneers' star.
Brady goes on to say, “then time went by and you just get super competitive. I think I'm part crazy. I mean, I think that's the reality. Forty-five years old and I'm out here with a lot of young guys that are trying to take my head off,” per Nick Shook. However, that competitive edge just hasn't left Tom Brady's body just yet, which is why he'll be under center for the Buccaneers in the upcoming season.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback realizes how little time he has remaining in the league, as he also states, “I had the appetite to compete, and it's going to be gone soon. I mean, there's no doubt about it and I gotta, you know, just really appreciate the time I have left because it's not a lot,” per Nick Shook.
We'll see how he fairs this year. Although he is the oldest player in the NFL, Tom Brady continues to be one of the best at his position. The Buccaneers are in a prime spot, as the franchise aims to secure one more title before Tom Brady's retirement. Perhaps we'll see this insane wack-job secure his seventh Super Bowl ring before calling it a career?
