Tom Brady is an institution. His seven Super Bowl rings are more than any NFL franchise. Maybe more impressive than his on-field success, though, is the sheer amount of time he's been able to play. After retiring and unretiring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this offseason, Brady will return for his 23rd season.
However, it's entirely possible this upcoming season is his last. Brady turns 45 in August and has obviously thought about retirement in the past. He recently opened up on his outlook about the future, reviving rumors that the Buccaneers QB will hang up the cleats next Spring.
“It’s very easy when you’re 25 to know what you want to do the next year,” Brady told ProFootballTalk. “It’s very challenging when you’re 43 or 44 because there’s a lot of other things that are pressing and a lot of other things that are really important in your life.”
Brady continued, saying that the time commitment in pair with the level of training necessary to compete at his age is a big responsibility. Obviously, Brady has done well for himself in the NFL even as his age and seasons continue to rise. But more and more, it is clear his reign of dominance over NFL history is not meant to last forever.
Time will tell if Brady decides to suit up for year 46 and season 24 following this season.
