Tom Brady rocked the NFL landscape when he announced his retirement in February. Then not long after, he sent out even more shockwaves when he announced he was returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just weeks later.

While the turn of events rocked the headlines, Tom Brady's reasons for returning for another go around are much more mild-mannered. The Buccaneers quarterback spoke candidly about his thought process with ESPN.

Via Tom VanHaaren of ESPN:

“At the end of the day, I just love the competition on the field,” the Buccaneers star said. “And last year was a very bitter ending to a season and we've got to make a lot of corrections to try to improve and put ourselves in a better position to succeed moving forward.”

After a magical first season Super Bowl run with the Buccaneers, it was an unceremonious end to the season last year for Tom Brady and Co. The infamous Antonio Brown meltdown coupled together with the late-season Chris Godwin injury mired what could have been another strong run at a ring.

While Tom Brady is coming back and may do so for more than one season, he knows that it's not going to be for long.

“I know I don't have a lot left, I really do. I know I'm at the end of my career,” Brady said. “I wish you could go forever, but it's just not and football comes at too high of a cost now. My kids are getting older and it's just getting harder and harder to miss these things.

“But, I wanted to give myself and my teammates and our organization another incredible opportunity to accomplish something that we'd all be very proud of.”

Tom Brady is going to give the Buccaneers all he has. He's not coming back just for the hell of it. Whether or not it results in a Super Bowl is anybody's guess.
