On Saturday, it was reported that Tom Brady had finally retired from the NFL. However, later on in the day, it turned out that Brady hadn't officially announced his retirement, not yet at least. However, some information regarding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has been falsely shared. We're here to clear the air.
According to Greg Auman, the reports suggesting that Tom Brady hasn't retired from the NFL yet for financial reasons are false. Multiple sources, like Fox News, claim that Brady is waiting until February 4th. to call his retirement, as that would give him $15 million in incentives.
This is completely wrong. Just misreading contract to portray Brady as having incentive to wait on retiring. His contract pays him a deferred $15 million bonus Feb. 4, but he's already earned it. Doesn't need to be on roster to get it. And if he retires, he pays back $16 million. https://t.co/fIQHma0a54

However, Auman points out that the money is guaranteed and that the Buccaneers quarterback already has the $15 million locked up. The $16 million Brady might have to give up only comes to fruition asks for the money back. Based on Tampa Bay's financial situation, asking for the money back is not necessary and won't help the franchise all that much. That means Tom Brady is free to retire from the NFL whenever he feels.
For now, it's all speculation on whether Brady retires or not. He seems to be leaning towards hanging it up, based on reports from around the NFL media. Regardless, we won't know his decision until he makes the official announcement.
The most trusted source on this topic will be Tom Brady himself. He's likely to send a retirement video on social media. Until then, we can sit back and enjoy the 2022 NFL playoffs and Super Bowl 56. We're bound to hear from Brady sooner, rather than later.
