Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady shocked the NFL and sports world (again) when he announced his retirement on Tuesday, though the move was official this time. Brady competed against and became friends with so many players during his legendary, 22-year NFL career, so it wasn't surprising to see the sheer number of reactions to his official retirement from both around the NFL and in the sports world in general.
First, Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, wrote a classy statement honoring Tom Brady's career in his retirement.

One of the most notable reactions came from former Denver Broncos legend John Elway, who reacted to Brady's retirement by commending the former Buccaneers and Patriots QB's class and competitive fire, qualities that he knows a thing or two about.
When I think about Tom Brady, he’s a true winner who handled himself with class throughout his entire career.
Even with those seven Super Bowl rings, he never lost that competitive fire to be the best.
Congratulations, @TomBrady, on a tremendous career! https://t.co/bXmwUo3bc8

Elway wasn't the only former star quarterback to congratulate Brady on his retirement.
"It was an honor and a privilege to compete against him on the field, and I truly appreciate his friendship off the field."

Former Indianapolis Colts and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning delivered a heartfelt message to Brady, who he competed against for many years but also developed a great friendship with. But it wasn't just former NFL signal-callers congratulating Brady on his retirement.
Congrats to the Greatest. @TomBrady #12
— Russell Wilson (@DangeRussWilson) February 1, 2022
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson offered his congratulations to “the greatest.” Wilson certainly isn't the only one who feels that Brady is the greatest ever, as this former New England Patriots teammate echoed a similar sentiment.
It's hard to sum up Tom Brady's career in words, though the NFL will be saying farewell to perhaps the greatest player in the league's storied history. Congratulations are indeed in order as the Buccaneers star prepares for retirement.
