The Chicago Bears pulled off an upset over the Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the fact that Brady lost was overshadowed by the way in which they lost.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers had the ball on their own 41-yard line. It was 4th and 5, Brady drops back and attempts a pass down the field that gets broken up. However, as the Bears defense celebrates and starts to walk off the field, Brady stays on the field and holds up four fingers seemingly indicating he thought it was now fourth down.

On the daily Locked On Bears Podcast, host Lorin Cox breaks down the Bears' big win over the Buccaneers and that bewildering last play where Tom Brady forgot what down it was.

Lorin Cox: Bruce Arians says that Tom Brady knew it was fourth down on that last play. I don't know what to think, he holds up four fingers. I never want to assume arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, who is known for his football intelligence and situational awareness didn't know what down it was on that play.

I will say that this controversy and all of the memes and images that came off of that are distracting us all from how terrible of a throw and a decision that throw was in that situation, even if it was third down. Even if he thought it was third down. Cameron Brate, the tight end, was blanketed down the field by DeAndre Houston-Carson, there was no separation there. He was throwing into a super covered receiver a bunch of yards past the first down marker and I don't know what was going on there.

It speaks to a larger point about some of the things the Bears benefited from in this matchup, a ton of penalties against the Buccaneers. Albeit, a ton against the Bears as well, but the Bears are kind of used to having a lot of penalties against them. So far this season, they've been a heavily penalized team, as have the Buccaneers. In terms of yardage here, the Buccaneers were penalized 11 for 109. The Bears offense as a whole had 243 yards, that's it's like adding 50 percent of the yardage on penalties. The Bears had six flags for 66, it wasn't completely one-sided in that regard, but still, the bears ended up benefiting a little bit more from that than the Buccaneers did.
