Kevin Byard and the Tennessee Titans have the luxury of taking a longer rest between the end of the regular season and their first game in the playoffs, thanks to them managing to notch a top seed in the AFC. The extended rest is certainly a big plus for Tennessee, which enjoys a bye in the Wild Card round after finishing the regular season with a 12-5-0 record. That also means that the Titans' perfect 8-0 record in games following at least nine non-gamedays of rest (excluding season openers) since Mike Vrabel took over as the team's head coach in 2018 will be put on the line in this postseason — for the first time.
Byard shares his thoughts about that excellent trend and why he thinks it's not a “fluke” that the Titans have eight wins against zero losses under the aforementioned circumstances.
Via John Glennon of Sports Illustrated:
“I definitely don’t think it’s a fluke,” safety Kevin Byard said. “But me personally, I just think every single week is different. And I do think that the way (Vrabel) prepares us every week — whether it’s how many days we practice, how long we’re on the field, everything like that — I’m sure all that factors into the whole equation.”
The Titans are still waiting for an opponent in the Divisional Round. That would be the winner of the Wild Card showdown between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots Saturday night, so Byard, Vrabel, and the rest of Tennessee nation will be keeping an eye on that game.
