There is a growing possibility that Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry could make his long-awaited return to action in the Week 18 clash with the Houston Texans.
Henry has been sidelined since the Titans’ Week 8 road win over the Indianapolis Colts due to a fractured foot injury suffered during the game. The Titans later placed him on injured reserve, while the reigning rushing champion opted to undergo surgery for his right foot injury.
After making notable progress with his injury over the past month, the Titans designated him to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, which opened up his 21-day window to possibly be placed on the active roster.
Henry suffered no setbacks with his injury in the Titans’ scheduled practice sessions this week, and as it stands, head coach Mike Vrabel is not ruling out the possibility of activating him from injured reserve tomorrow.
“We have some time to make that decision,” Vrabel said on Friday. “We’ll evaluate where we’re at, but I think that he looked good. We’ll continue to track his speed and mileage and volume and see how he responds. Two days on the turf, we’ll see where he’s at and how he responds tomorrow, but I feel good about where he’s at.”
As mentioned, Henry has made significant progress in his injury rehab process. He featured in an individual workout on Monday, which played a crucial role in the Titans’ decision in giving him the green light to return to practice.
The Titans have plenty to play for in Week 18, as a win over the Texans would clinch them the No. 1 seed in the AFC. If Henry ends up not being placed on the active roster for the game, D’Onta Foreman is expected to once again be the feature back for Tennessee. He has been a pivotal contributor in the Titans offense as of late, which includes 257 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the team’s last three games.
The Titans will look to avenge their defeat to the Texans earlier in the season.
