The Tennessee Titans got a much-needed win Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers, 20-17. In the win, Titans Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown accomplished a feat not seen since 1981.
A.J. Brown reeled in a career-high 11 catches in the win. Eight of those receptions came on 3rd down. That is the most 3rd down receptions in the last 40 years in NFL play.
A.J. Brown went off in his first game back from his stint on the IR:
– Career-high 11 receptions
– 8 receptions on 3rd down, most by any player over the last 40 seasons

Brown balled out Thursday night, finishing with 11 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown. The yardage accounted for 69 percent of the team's total receiving yards. That is the most by any player in the NFL this season, with a minimum of 200 yards passing.
This was A.J. Brown's first game off of injured reserve. He was placed on IR a month ago with a chest injury. The Titans receiver looked a step slow early on in his return, as did the entire offense. Tennessee had 55 yards of offense at halftime, but only trailed 10-0 at the break.
In the 3rd quarter, the Titans superstar wideout broke out. He pulled down catch after catch, helping the Titans offense get back on track. On the other side of the ball, 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel also balled out. He caught eight passes for 159 yards and also chipping in with 32 rushing yards on five carries. Samuel matched Brown play for play, but could not overcome his quarterback's mistakes.
Jimmy Garoppolo threw two interceptions, helping keep the Titans in the game.
With the win, the Titans can clinch the AFC South division if the Indianapolis Colts lose to the Arizona Cardinals on Christmas night.
