The Washington Commanders are deep into the offseason after missing out on a playoff run. Although they haven't played since Week 18, the team stayed relevant by announcing the new name of the franchise last week. This week, team owner Dan Snyder remains in the news for the sexual harassment allegations against him.
The Commanders made headlines again this week, this team due to a controversial tweet from one of their defensive tackles.
It all started early Wednesday morning when Jonathan Allen tweeted “Ask me anything.”
Twitter user Nick Chappell asked Allen which three people, dead or alive, he would choose to have dinner with. The Commanders player replied “My grandad, hitler and michael Jackson.”
The response received backlash because he mentioned “hitler,” referring to Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany in the 1900s.
A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the interaction, which happened around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

Allen's response tweet is no longer available, but he acknowledge and apologized for it in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.
Early I tweeted something that probably hurt people and I apologize about what I said. I didn’t express properly what I was trying to say and I realize it was dumb!

“Early I tweeted something that probably hurt people and I apologize about what I said. I didn't express properly what I was trying to say and I realize it was dumb!” Allen wrote. Many Commanders fans replied to the tweet, accepted his apology, and understood that he meant no harm in his response.
I understood watch you meant Jon. You didn't mean any harm in it, I didn't take it that way. Keep being you bro, that's why we cheer for you.
