The Edmonton Oilers host the Chicago Blackhawks in their back-to-back matchup coming out of the All-Star break. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Blackhawks-Oilers prediction and pick.
After being shutout 4-0 in yesterday's loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Oilers look to shake it off and get back on track against the Blackhawks tonight, who went into the All-Star break on a 1-5-2 run. Chicago currently sits in the third to last place in the West, with only 39 points, as they look to bounce back and get a notch in the win column.

Last year's Vezina Trophy winner, Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to defend between the pipes tonight, and he has been expectedly terrific. However, he's slowly started to digress as the rest of the Blackhawks can't seem to help him get wins. Fleury has a .908 save percentage and 2.93 average goals against through 33 starts this season. The Blackhawks' new coaching hire, Derek King, has been an improvement, to say the least, going just above .500 since he took over, and really helping Chicago's defensive performances. There have been trade rumors circling the locker room involving Alex DeBrincat and Marc-Andre Fleury, but if they can put those rumors behind them, the Blackhawks can keep it close and start to head in the right direction.
Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win
The lack of offense is an understatement in an embarrassing 4-0 home loss to Vegas last night, but Connor McDavid and the Oilers look to bounce back in tonight's back-to-back matchup. The Oilers' weak defensive play will surely be a concern once again, along with their less than stellar goaltending. Stuart Skinner will get the nod in net tonight since Mike Smith started yesterday, and Mikko Koskinen is currently being held in the COVID-19 protocols. Skinner is averaging 2.85 goals per game with a .908 save percentage in 11 starts. With only 49 points and being 5th in the Pacific Division, the Oilers have overall been a disappointment for the amount of offensive talent they possess. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl lead Edmonton's scoring, and hopefully, with the addition of Evander Kane, they can keep pucks on the net and pull off a bounce-back win tonight against the Blackhawks.
Final Blackhawks-Oilers Prediction & Pick
Surely Edmonton could have produced more against Vegas last night, and going against a much less inferior opponent, it's safe to say the high-powered offense of the Oilers will find a way to break through the wall for a win tonight. The defensive woes on the Oilers' back end continue to look shaky, but I don't think the Blackhawks will be able to keep up.
Final Blackhawks-Oilers Prediction & Pick: Oilers (-196 ML)
