Why The Blues Can Cover The Spread/Win

The St. Louis Blues have been a rollercoaster of a team this season and despite playing eight of nine games on the road, they're very much tending up at the moment with a seven-game point streak (6-0-1). The Blues have been a top team at both ends of the ice, mainly due to their special teams' success where their power play is ranked second-best overall at 27 percent and a penalty kill that's ranked fourth-best overall with an 85 percent success rate. Their recent stretch of games has helped goaltender Jordan Binnington get back to his normal game, even though it's still unclear who the true starter is for St. Louis. Ville Husso has been the Blues' top-performing netminder lately as he looks to get another start tonight. He's averaging 2.03 goals against per game with a .935 save percentage. He'll look to shut the door on a powerful Rangers team tonight.

Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Rangers have been hot lately but saw their own six-game point streak come to an end after a loss to the Penguins, and then losing 5-2 at home against the Canucks. The Rangers have had a tough time scoring though, even though their power play is ranked fourth in the league. Their penalty kill is quite similar, ranking seventh-best in the league with a success rate of 82.7 percent. It's no secret that Igor Shesterkin has played absolutely incredible this season as he looks to defend the home cage again tonight with a .941 save percentage and allowing just 1.95 goals against per game. He'll look to help his team walk away with yet another two points from the Blues tonight.

Final Blues-Rangers Prediction & Pick

On paper, these two teams are strikingly similar, being less than desirable in 5-on-5 scenarios and relying heavily on superb goaltending. In fact, both teams are under .500 when it comes to covering the overs in each game, especially the Rangers as they're only 18-33-2 (35%) on the season. The Blues are almost even at 24-25-3 (49%) but 11-13-1 on the road covering their overs. With that said, I like the under here. It's a bit low at 5.5, so I may try and move the line to get six, but I like the chances for both teams as again, they rely very heavily on their goaltending.

Final Blues-Rangers Prediction and Pick: Under 5.5 (-112)
