Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Ducks have had their stretches of good hockey this year, but they currently look to break a four-game losing streak as they end their Western Canadian road trip in Vancouver tonight. The road, in general, has been pretty difficult for Anaheim this season, as they're 10-16 on the year and just 2-9 in their last 11. All-Star goaltender John Gibson has not been playing well recently, as he started in back-to-back matchups last time out, which is never a good sign for a netminder who clearly needs a break. He's 0-3-1 in his last four, and even got replaced in the second period against the Calgary Flames a few games back.

With that said, he's expected to get yet another start here tonight as the 28-year-old is now posting 2.74 goals against per game with a .915 save percentage. The Ducks still believe in Gibson though, as they hope to get some offense rolling so they can go back home with a desperate two points.

Why The Canucks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Canucks return to their home barn tonight after a 5-4 overtime win in San Jose on Thursday. They're looking for a lucky three in a row tonight as they sit at the bottom of the playoff race for the Western Conference. While listed as the favorite, Vancouver is 9-6, but 5-4 when they're favorites at home, winning five of their last six games in that role. Starting goaltender, Thatcher Demko has been the centerpiece for the Canucks this season as he looks to get another start for them tonight. He's sporting a .919 save percentage while allowing 2.57 goals per game. The Canucks will most definitely lean on him again tonight as he'll look to get another notch in the win column against a young and win-hungry Anaheim Ducks team.

Final Ducks-Canucks Prediction & Pick

This matchup features two teams who are fighting for the last playoff spot in the West but are on two different trends. The Anaheim Ducks are slowly trending down while the Vancouver Canucks are slowly trending up, and the same goes for both of their goaltenders as well. With that said, this game could go either way, but I'm going to ride the hot hand in the Vancouver Canucks at home, especially with how bad the Ducks are on the road.
