The St. Louis Blues will play host to the New York Islanders in one of tonight's cross-conference matchups. The Islanders have been red hot lately, going 7-3-0 in their last 10 matchups, including a five-game win streak. The Blues come into this game on a three-game winning streak after defeating the Wild in overtime last night. These teams have played each other just once this season where the Islanders took home the victory. Both of these teams are also heading into this game on the tail end of their own respected back-to-back games. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with an Islanders-Blues prediction and pick.

Why The Islanders Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Islanders have been one of the hottest teams in the league lately as they have just been wildly underrated heading into every game. They're now 11 points behind the Capitals for the last wild card position in the East, and the Capitals have not been playing very well lately. If the Islanders continue to win games and the Capitals continue to lose games, it's a very good possibility that we get a true playoff race in the East, something nobody has said since much earlier in the season. Since the Islanders are on their second game of a back-to-back set, goaltender Semyon Varlamov will more than likely get the start tonight. He's currently sporting a .918 save percentage while allowing 2.74 goals against per game. He'll look to shut down a dangerous Blues offense tonight.

Why The Blues Can Cover The Spread/Win

The St. Louis Blues have been playing some pretty good hockey lately, winning six of their last seven games. They are also looking to get their fourth win in a row tonight to conclude their four-game homestand. The Blues are currently tied with the Wild for second place in the Central Division, points-wise, but the Wild have an extra game in hand. If the Blues can keep up the pace, they'll look to clinch the second seed in the division pretty soon. Goaltender Jordan Binnington should be in the net tonight as the Blues are also playing the second game of a back-to-back stint tonight. Binnington is allowing 3.25 goals against per game with a .899 save percentage on the season. He'll look to try and stop a red hot Islanders team tonight.

Final Islanders-Blues Prediction & Pick

This is a very tough matchup to find value in as both of these teams are playing really good hockey lately. With that said, the Islanders are on absolute fire right now, and I truly believe if they kept their wits together, they could sneak into the playoffs unnoticed. Sure, they're 11 points back from the Capitals, but that can all change in just a few games. Because of that, give me the Islanders while they are still barely in plus money. I think that's pretty good value for a team who's desperate for a playoff run in the last month of the season.

For a quick side bet as well, don't be scared to bet the over in this game too. Both teams have their backup goaltenders playing tonight and the total just seems way too low for a matchup like this. In fact, the over in this game could very well be my “Under The Radar Lock Of The Day.”
