Why The Maple Leafs Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming into this game off of a win against the Panthers on Sunday as they head into Boston tonight for their third game in four days. The Leafs have had goaltending problems, to say the least, and have really relied on Petr Mrazek to get the job done in the net while Jack Campbell heals from his injuries. However, it's not a guarantee that he'll get the start tonight as Erik Kallgren has also been in the mix as a backup. Regardless, Toronto's offense is very starstudded as Auston Matthews is only two goals away from his first career 50-goal season. The Leafs will look to get him going early tonight against a red-hot Bruins team who is coming for their playoff spot.

Why The Bruins Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Boston Bruins are on absolute fire right now. They come into this game on a four-game winning streak and overall 8-1-1 in their last 10 matchups. The Bruins have a tough test defensively against a very talented Leafs offense, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem considering the Bruins have one of the better defenses in the league, along with goaltending to back that up. Starting netminder Jeremy Swayman has already been confirmed as the starter for the Bruins tonight and he continues to show why he'll have a nice career for the Bruins for quite some time. On his first full season in the league, Swayman is 19-8-3 with a .925 save percentage while allowing 2.09 goals against. He'll have the tough task of shutting down the ever so dangerous Maple Leafs tonight.

Final Maple Leafs-Bruins Prediction & Pick

This game is an honest toss-up as both of these teams are tied in the standings with the exact same record. However, in hockey, you always have to ride the hot hand until it proves that it's cold. In this case, I'm taking the Bruins tonight. They're absolutely scorching hot right now and they're on home ice. The Maple Leafs are having some goaltending issues, and are 0-4 in their four games as road dogs. I love the Bruins here tonight, especially with Swayman standing on his head all season for them. Give me Boston on home ice at the Garden.
