Why The Bruins Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Boston Bruins are looking to bounce back after a tough loss in game one. Although they started out strong, the Hurricanes took an early lead in the second period and never looked back from there. As far as intensity goes, the Bruins kept up to par with the Canes in game one. The only area of concern, from my own standpoint, would be their special teams. The powerplay looked sloppy and unpracticed, so of course, we'll likely see a change to that here in game two. Linus Ullmark was the goalie in game one where he allowed four goals and made 20 saves on 24 shots, a .833 save percentage. He'll get the starting nod for game two as well, which is somewhat surprising considering how well Jeremy Swayman has been playing. But maybe they're keeping around in case of injuries/poor performance from Ullmark.
Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Carolina Hurricanes came out of the gates in game one with a passion. You could tell they wanted to be there and they wanted to win. They couldn't quite find the back of the net in the first period, but once that first goal goes in, the flood gates were open, ultimately winning the game 5-1. The Canes played very well defensively, as they typically do, but could use a little bit of work on their offensive looks. A lot of questionable shots were being tossed at the net, but they ultimately scored five goals, so who am I to criticize? They'll look to stay on their game tonight as Antti Raanta will look to get another start tonight while the Canes await Freddie Andersen to be back to full health.
Final Bruins-Hurricanes Prediction & Pick
Both of these teams could've played better in game one, sure. As long as the Canes can find a way to put pucks in the net, they should be fine, but Boston needs to step up their offensive game, especially on the powerplay. With that said, the Bruins are currently in plus money, which looks like a great value pick to me. I'll be honest, the 5-1 final score doesn't really scare me. The Bruins looked very good for their lack of scoring, and I think they'll improve on their mistakes here tonight. Give me the Bruins on the road tonight to get the series back even as they head into Boston for games three and four.
