Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Carolina Hurricanes have yet to win on the road so far in the playoffs, so they'll be looking to turn that narrative around tonight for game three. As per usual, they won the first two games at home, pretty easily I might add. The Canes are looking like a very solid team, defensively, but are starting to struggle on offense a little bit. Regardless, until they can find a win on the road, they're not going to make it as far in the playoffs as they would hope.
Their offensive woes could likely be due to facing off against Shesterkin in the opposite net, but the Canes have found some great goaltending of their own in Antti Raanta, who has a .980 save percentage through the first two games of this series. The big question that Canes fans are asking is when Freddy Andersen gets back to full health, will they leave Raanta in the net until he isn't playing well again? Raanta has been the backbone of this team in the playoffs so far and they want to build on that with a win on the road today.
Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win
The New York Rangers are not looking good, to put it bluntly. They return back home in dire desperation for a win after already being down 2-0 in the series. This team is so talented and has so much depth, but there will be times when I'm watching this team play and notice how in some games, their top players are on the back of milk cartons. Their defense is very underrated, not giving up very many shots (47 through the first two games), but their offense has been brutal.
The Rangers rely so heavily on Igor Shesterkin between the pipes, but they have to score goals in front of him if they want to get wins. Even though he lost the first two games, Shesterkin is still putting up a .936 save percentage throughout this series, singlehandedly keeping them in this matchup. The offense needs to step it up so they can get a win on home ice tonight.
Final Hurricanes-Rangers Prediction & Pick
Both of these goaltenders have been amazing so far in this matchup, and I think that's what will truly decide this series. The problem is, I have little to no faith in the Rangers right now. They almost look defeated in a way, their top players go missing for games at a time, they can't get their offense together, it's honestly tough to watch sometimes. If they didn't have Shesterkin, they wouldn't even be in this series to begin with. With that said, the Canes can't win on the road and because of that, I think the Rangers will somehow find a way to get the win today as their season practically depends on it.
