The Edmonton Oilers are just 9-12 on the season so far, staring down at the San Jose Sharks who are bringing up the rear in the Pacific Division.

The Oilers' Connor McDavid is doing his best to help fans forget the slow start. McDavid went full Mario Lemieux recently with a feat not seen in nearly three decades. McDavid's latest comments will fire up Oilers fans.

In contrast to McDavid's startling success on the ice has been the lack of production from defenseman Philip Broberg, who is now the subject of a rumor making the rounds.

“(I) Understand the #Oilers granted permission for Philip Broberg’s camp to seek a trade,” said Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff.

“Sounds like there has been solid interest on that front. Edmonton isn’t interested in getting a pick back, they’d like a player. So you’ll have to likely find a player in a similar situation.”

The tweet was viewed over 425,000 times as of Tuesday night and the rumor appears to be picking up steam.

“Expectations: Player with some upside his age preferably a forward,” one fan said on X in response to the post.

“Reality: Some dusty old player who brings nothing but ‘leadership' on the bench.”

“A 34-year-old past-his-prime d-man with grit incoming,” another fan added.

The Oilers' brass led by current general manager Ken Holland is hoping to satisfy a rabid fanbase in a challenging time for the Oilers franchise. The franchise hasn't won a championship since 1990, three years prior to the Montreal Canadiens' 1993 victory, the last by a Canadian NHL team.

A list of eight potential Oilers trade candidates was revealed recently, suggesting that Holland may still have plenty of wheeling and dealing left to do before the season ends.
