The Carolina Hurricanes are once again going to be without goaltender Frederik Andersen for an extended period of time.
The oft-injured goaltender has gone under the knife to repair an ailment with his knee and is expected to miss at least the next eight weeks of action. The news was first reported on X via NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, who wrote the following update:
“Hearing that ‘Canes goalie Frederik Andersen will undergo a procedure to his knee which will knock him out of action about 8 weeks or so,” he reported. “It's not major surgery, just a clean-up, but obviously still takes him out a while.”
Andersen has played in four games for Carolina in 2024-25 and has impressive numbers, a 3-1 record with a 1.49 goals-against average and a sparkling .941 save percentage.
The Hurricanes take the ice on Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.
Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen has missed multiple games in his career due to injury concerns

One of the better goaltenders in the National Hockey League when he's healthy, Andersen has unfortunately struggled with durability and injury woes throughout his career.
Originally selected by the Hurricanes with the 87th overall pick in the 2012 Draft, Andersen couldn't come to terms on a contract with Carolina and was later selected by the Ducks after re-entering the Draft.
He would spend the first several years of his career with the Ducks, helping them to a berth in the 2015 Western Conference Final. Later playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he led them to several postseason appearances but was unable to break through the opening round.
Signing with the Hurricanes in 2021, he became the first goaltender in League history to begin 8-0 with his new team. He suffered an injury that caused him to miss the beginning of the 2022 postseason, and then was limited to just 34 games in the 2022-23 season.
Last November, it was announced he would be out indefinitely due to blood clotting issues; he was limited to just 16 games but was a finalist for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
