For the first time in their NHL careers, siblings Luke Hughes and Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks will play in the same game when their teams collide on Tuesday at Rogers Arena. It's a dream come true for the brothers, who, in fact, have not shared the ice for an organized game.
“I think it's going to be really cool lined up against him. It's also cool that he's the captain now. It's such an honor for him and it should be really neat for the three of us … definitely a moment we'll remember the rest of our lives, Luke said (via Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com)”
Such a sibling phenomenon in the NHL is, unsurprisingly, rare. Prior to this upcoming Devils vs Canucks game, the last time three brothers played in the same regular season NHL contest, however, occurred not so long ago, which was when Eric, Marc, and Jordan Staal skated on April 13.

Luke followed him a year later as the first overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft. Luke made it three Hughes brothers in the best hockey league in the world when he was taken fourth overall by the Devils in the 2021 draft.
“Honestly, just hanging out with [Quinn] is one of the things I'm looking forward to most,” Luke added ahead of the Devils-Canucks meeting. “I haven't seen him for a while so that'd be good. Obviously, our parents will probably be in town, and they'll definitely enjoy that. It's just a big moment for our family … a lot to celebrate. Hopefully, at the end of the day, we get to win a hockey game.”
