According to a report by Eurogamer, some classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color games will be available soon on Nintendo Switch Online. This addition will bulk up the Nintendo Switch Online classic library. It currently contains around eighty NES games and fifty SNES games.
These reports reinforce earlier musings from the Nate the Hate podcast. Additionally, Nintendo Life has also confirmed these rumors to be true. The same report from Eurogamer also gives us the following details:
“A datamine of the NES Switch app back in January 2019 tipped the addition of SNES titles to the service before Nintendo made the announcement official. At the time, the data mine also pointed to a couple of other emulators hiding in the code, ready for Nintendo to add further platforms down the line.”
Meanwhile, on Game Boy Advance titles coming to Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Life report had the following to say:
“The same insider is far less optimistic about Game Boy Advance titles arriving on the paid online service in the near future – noting how several companies are currently working on re-releases, including Nintendo, who has the Advance Wars remaster coming out this December. We’ve also not heard anything about Game Boy Advance titles being included in this update.”
Well, that’s a bummer for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald fans. For more on the Nintendo Switch, we’ve got a list of top upcoming exclusives right here.
